Resulting in the Relocation of Japanese Americans Essay
Resulting in the Relocation of Japanese Americans - Essay Example The United States President made the above Executive Order to protect American interests. The Enduring Visionsââ¬â¢ Chapter 25 states that the president during 1942 was Franklin Delano Roosevelt (Boyer 765). The order instructed all military units to imprison all Japanese Americans in preselected military prison camps (http://www.ourdocuments.gov/). The order was made in order to restrict the movement of resident who are of Japanese ancestries. The United States war enemies of 1942 included Japan, Italy, and Germany. The order was meant to restrict the movements of the Japanese Americans, two months after Pearl Harbor was bombed by Japanese military pilots (Laurier 35). Further, the order instructed the military to give food, shelter and other comforts to the incarcerated civilians. The order does mention the nationalities of the persons to be rounded up and imprisoned. However, the letter clearly states that the military will include the Japanese residents among those to be picked up and locked up in military camps within the United States (http://www.ourdocuments.gov/). Furthermore, the United States instructed the Secretary of War and the military commander to spearhead seeking the help of the federal troops and the federal agencies to implement the order. Consequently, the United States President ordered all United States departments to collaborate with the military authoritiesââ¬â¢ implementation of order 9066 (http://www.ourdocuments.gov/). Moreover, the intentions of the order did not limit the current investigations of the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation. The bureau was investigating and weeding out possible saboteurs and spies from within the American communities having race relationships with the current United States war enemies. The bureau picked up and filed cases against proven Japanese spies and saboteurs (http://www.ourdocuments.gov/). Further, Executive order 9066 was issued during February of 1942. The document was made after Pearl Harbor was bombed by the Japanese airplanes during December 7, 1941. The Japanese bomb ing during was two hours (Lassier 89). Even though the order did not mention whether the targeted civilians were Japanese, German, or Italian residents, the general interpretation of the order was to only focus on the Japanese people. This is understandable because of the recent bombing of Pearl Harbor (http://www.ourdocuments.gov/). As proof, the military started to forcibly rounding up and transfer the Japanese Americans within the designation military zones. Secretary of State ordered the Military Commander, Lt. General Dewitt, as the military commander of the Western Defense Command overseeing the implementation of Executive Order 9066 on February 20, 1942. The military prison zones were located in the western halves of California, Oregon, and Washington. Likewise, the Southern half of Arizona was set as another military prison zone. As proof that the military zones are prison camps, the Japanese were restricted to only moving within the military zones

The lifting of the blockade Essay Example for Free
The lifting of the blockade Essay Further negotiations took place between Malik and the representatives of the United States, Great Britain, and France on May 2 and May 4. Finally, on May 5, 1949, an agreement was reached and a communique was issued by the four countries. Under their agreement, the USSR would lift the Berlin Blockade on May 12, 1949. Then the Council of Foreign Ministers would meet on May 23, 1949 in Paris to ââ¬Å"consider questions relating to Germany and problems arising out of the situation in Berlin, including also the question of currency in Berlin. â⬠Finally, the barriers which stopped the rail, road, and water traffic to Berlin were removed a little after midnight of May 12, 1949. As a result, supplies started entering Berlin by road, rail, and water for the first time since the start of the Berlin Blockade (Giangreco and Griffin [a]). The aftermath When Clay learned that the USSR had already agreed to the lifting of the blockade, he recommended that the airlift should be continued until the Council of Foreign Ministers had concluded their meeting. He said that the airlift was still necessary for the purpose of building up vital reserves of supplies of fuel and food just in case the Soviets decided, for any reason, to reinstitute the blockade. Washington agreed with him and the airlift continued. Finally, the United States, Great Britain, and France issued another official announcement on July 30, 1949, stating that the airlift of supplies into Berlin would officially end on October 31, 1949 (Barlow). The meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers took place as scheduled on May 23, 1949 in Paris. The United States delegation was headed by Dean Acheson. The British delegation was headed by Bevin while the leader of the French delegation was Robert Schuman. Finally, the head of the Soviet delegation was Andre Vyshinsky. The delegations of the four powers came to the conference with official positions which essentially guaranteed the division of the German nation. The formal division of Germany occurred when the zones occupied by the western powers were unified to give rise to the Federal Republic of Germany while the Russian zone became the German Democratic Republic (Giangreco and Griffin [a]). Self evaluation
Individual Critical and Reflective Self-Evaluative Paper Course Evaluation; I really enjoyed this course, as I knew I would. I love to debate!! I am a very opinionated person and I used to want to be a lawyer when I grew up Just because I loved to argue so much (such a pleasure for my parents! ). On the course with me were some other girls who had some strong opinions too which was really great because we had some good debates with some strong arguments and points! At the beginning of the course we voted on the topics we wanted for our debates, which meant that we would all be interested in most of the subjects we chose.Being all irls as well you can image some of the ââ¬Å"banterâ⬠we had! Even though the class started at 9am, it was always easy to come in because of the group that we had in class; I think it makes such a difference when there is good energy in a work area, it makes it a lot more fun to be in. I enjoyed the class time, especially because the format was very re laxed. The lecture would be more of a discussion where we would talk about certain issues and elements relating to the course. It makes the class much more enjoyable and engaging rather than Just listening to a teacher go on and on whilst the class sits there texting away on their phones.Personal Evaluation; Being such an emotional person I do find it hard to sometimes control my emotions and I find myself slightly riled up after morning debates! I am generally an emotional person and things get to me quite easily and I need to learn that in business, university and even sometimes my social life I need to Just relax and breathe; its not the end of the world! Having been born and raised in London I like to think that I have a good grasp on the English language and have a good way of expressing myself which has definitely been a useful tool for the debate questions and reviews.I try to ake on board the constructive criticism because we would all offer a lot of feedback and comments to one another, which is really useful, and I will take those comments to help myself in the future. For the first few debates I didn't use sources that were credible and the tutor told me that in order to make my statements and points more reliable I had to start using more credible sources. This term I have not been happy with myself academically or personally. I don't think that I have performed to the best of my ability and I believe that at the moment I am Just living rather than enjoying life nd my time at university. This is because I have been lazy. I am not back into a routine of being healthy and active and this has a negative affect on the other areas in my life. I want to be more active and involved in what's going on around London. I want to be able to talk about interesting things IVe done and seen and experience life to the full. In This Report I Will Be Identifying The Different Types
In this report I will be identifying the different types of trade, discussing the role of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in global trade and how specific trade agreements operate and their impact on international trade. 2 Types of trade Free trade is the minimal amount of tariffs, quotas and taxes to allow countries to trade ââ¬Å"freelyâ⬠. The opposite of free trade is known as protectionism; the practice of shielding a country s domestic industries from foreign competition by taxing imports. There are two types of trade, invisible and visible. Visible trade consists of physical tangible goods which include manufactured goods such as cars and machinery but it also includes agricultural goods like wheat and corn. On the other hand,â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦However Doha Round 2001 still remains to be ratified. It settles trade disputes between member countries. Finally, with 188 members it is argued that this organisation has played a key role in bringing unity and the tighter integration of the world economy. It was known as General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) up until 1995. The WTO has four main roles. Firstly, it acts as an orchestra conductor to ensure that all rules are respected. The Doha Round includes agriculture, environment, development etc. so it is no surprise that an agreement between the 188 countries has not been resolved as it is a lengthy process, a consensus among members through a round of negotiations must be agreed. Secondly, a role of trade tribunal. The WTO settles disputes between countries. If countries in dispute cannot settle differences by themselves a definitive ruling will be issued in which the losing party must comply. If it does not comply it is liable to sanctions, over 400 complaints have been filed by WTO members since 1995. Furthermore, it acts as a monitor as it is constantly reviewing trade policies of its members, assessing whether members are abiding by WTO rules. Finally, a training role. Government officials from developing countries are offered training programmes, an average of 35 million Swiss francs is spent annually with Africa as the main beneficiary followed by Asia and Latin America. 4 Trade Agreements Trade agreements are the product of negotiationsShow MoreRelatedThe Marketing Research Planning Process1092 Words à |à 5 PagesIntroduction In this paper we will discuss the process used in marketing research planning. Coffee Cup and Bomb Calorimetry
A calorimeter is a device used to measure the quantity of heat flow in a chemical reaction. Two of the most common types of calorimeters are the coffee cup calorimeter and the bomb calorimeter. Coffee Cup Calorimeter A coffee cup calorimeter is essentially a polystyrene (Styrofoam) cup with a lid. The cup is partially filled with a known volume of water and a thermometer is inserted through the lid of the cup so that its bulb is below the water surface. When a chemical reaction occurs in the coffee cup calorimeter, the heat of the reaction is absorbed by the water. The change in water temperature is used to calculate the amount of heat that has been absorbed (used to make products, so water temperature decreases) or evolved (lost to the water, so its temperature increases) in the reaction. Heat flow is calculated using the relation: q (specific heat) x m x Ãât Where q is heat flow, m is mass in grams, and Ãât is the change in temperature. The specific heat is the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of 1 gram of a substance 1 degree Celsius. The specific heat of water is 4.18 J/(gà ·Ã °C). For example, consider a chemical reaction that occurs in 200 grams of water with an initial temperature of 25.0 C. The reaction is allowed to proceed in the coffee cup calorimeter. As a result of the reaction, the temperature of the water changes to 31.0 C. The heat flow is calculated: qwater 4.18 J/(gà ·Ã °C) x 200 g x (31.0 C - 25.0 C) qwater 5.0 x 103 J The products of the reaction evolved 5,000 J of heat, which was lost to the water. The enthalpy change, ÃâH, for the reaction is equal in magnitude but opposite in sign to the heat flow for the water: ÃâHreaction -(qwater) Recall that for an exothermic reaction, ÃâH 0, qwater is positive. The water absorbs heat from the reaction and an increase in temperature is seen. For an endothermic reaction, ÃâH 0, qwater is negative. The water supplies heat for the reaction and a decrease in temperature is seen. Bomb Calorimeter A coffee cup calorimeter is great for measuring heat flow in a solution, but it cant be used for reactions that involve gases since they would escape from the cup. The coffee cup calorimeter cant be used for high-temperature reactions, either, because they would melt the cup. A bomb calorimeter is used to measure heat flows for gases and ââ¬â¹high-temperature reactions. A bomb calorimeter works in the same manner as a coffee cup calorimeter, with one big difference: In a coffee cup calorimeter, the reaction takes place in the water, while in a bomb calorimeter, the reaction takes place in a sealed metal container, which is placed in the water in an insulated container. Heat flow from the reaction crosses the walls of the sealed container to the water. The temperature difference of the water is measured, just as it was for a coffee cup calorimeter. Analysis of the heat flow is a bit more complex than it was for the coffee cup calorimeter because the heat flow into the metal parts of the calorimeter must be taken into account: qreaction - (qwater qbomb) where qwater 4.18 J/(gà ·Ã °C) x mwater x Ãât The bomb has a fixed mass and specific heat. The mass of the bomb multiplied by its specific heat is sometimes termed the calorimeter constant, denoted by the symbol C with units of joules per degree Celsius. The calorimeter constant is determined experimentally and will vary from one calorimeter to the next. The heat flow of the bomb is: qbomb C x Ãât Once the calorimeter constant is known, calculating heat flow is a simple matter. The pressure within a bomb calorimeter often changes during a reaction, so the heat flow may not be equal in magnitude to the enthalpy change.
